DA Technology SMD fuse SF303 is successfully applied to the overcurrent protection of PD charger
The PD charger is a power adapter with PD protocol. The full name of PD is Power Delivery. The PD charger protocol is a power transmission protocol published by the USB-IF organization. USB-power Delivery can increase the Type-C interface to 100W. USB-Power Delivery is one of the mainstream fast charging protocols. Today’s PD charger are most likely to adopt GaN MOS solution, because GaN MOS has better heat dissipation performance, higher breakdown electric field and higher saturation speed. It can match smaller transformers, and the power inductor, so that in the case of the same adaptor, the size of the charger is 1/2 to 3/4 smaller than traditional charger.
As the size requirements of the entire charger are greatly reduced, in addition to the miniaturization and patching of main functional components such as transformers, control ICs, and power inductors, it also requires the miniaturization and patching of protective devices such as safety capacitors and fuses… , So as to reduce the size of the overall charger. For example, traditional chargers do not have size requirements in terms of space size. Generally, a square plug-in fuse is connected in series at the AC input end to meet the safety requirements of overcurrent and short circuit protection. However, due to the limitation of size requirements, engineers generally tend to choose SMD series fuses, such as our SF303 series, which is 2410 package, metric size 6.1x2.5mm, stringed on the AC input terminal, and its pad spacing size can meet the safety regulations. Creepage distance requirements.
