Nippon Chemi-Con has developed Radial Lead Type Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors GVA Series and GVD Series for ECU in products such as direct injection injectors, electric power steering systems, and electric pumps. 


Nippon Chemi-Con has commercialized the GPA Series (125℃ products) and the GPD Series (135℃ products) for the same field and received a favorable reception. In recent years, however, the integration and elimination of ECUs has progressed, and ECUs for powertrain systems that were installed in vehicle cabins are now installed directly in engines and transmissions. As a result, aluminum electrolytic capacitors have come to be required to withstand high temperatures as well as higher vibrations.


Generally, larger capacitors have lower vibration resistance performance. Therefore, for applications requiring high vibration resistance, it was necessary to mount small-size products in parallel. The two newly developed Series have improved vibration resistance using our original technology while achieving a large size even as radial lead type products. By adopting these Series, the number of parallel mounting can be reduced. This contributes to cost reduction, downsizing, and improvement of reliability. 


The GVA Series and GVD Series are available in a rated voltage range of 25 to 100V and guarantee a maximum 40G vibration acceleration resistance as well as a high-temperature resistance of 125℃ and higher. Higher ripple and higher temperature resistance have been realized by using a high-performance electrolyte that is more stable than conventional products at high temperatures, and a self-developed rubber seal with significantly improved endurance against deterioration of physical properties. 


[Mass Production] 

Mass production for both the GVA Series and the GVD Series started in July 2014 at Chemi-Con Iwate Corp. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nippon Chemi-Con)

- Capacitance range: 680 to 8,200µF 

- Case size: ⌀18×30 to ⌀18×35.5L 

- Endurance-1: When the specified rated ripple current is superimposed within the 

rated voltage at 125℃ or 135℃

(>>125℃) 25 to 100VDC: 3,000 hours 

(>>135℃) 25 to 50VDC: 3,000 hours; 63 to 100VDC: 2,000 hours 

- Endurance-2: When rated voltage is applied for 100 hours at 150℃ and the specified rated ripple current is superimposed within the rated voltage at 125℃ or 135℃

(>>125℃) 25 to 100VDC: 2,500 hours 

(>>135℃) 25 to 50VDC: 2,500 hours; 63 to 100VDC: 1,500 hours
