Nippon Chemi-Con has developed Snap-in Type Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors GXA Series with a high heat resistance of 125℃. The Series is suited for use in power supplies for telecommunications infrastructure and power conditioners for solar power generation, as well as markets where the temperature inside sets is expected to rise due to the use of GaN and SiC in semiconductor devices. Nippon Chemi-Con propose these products for input filtering of power supplies and DC links. 


As communications infrastructure and solar power generation systems become more widespread, they are expected to be installed in deserts and other harsh environments. Furthermore, the use of GaN and SiC in semiconductor devices is expected to increase the temperature in sets. Capacitors with high heat resistance are required for such applications. 


Conventionally, the heat resistance of snap-in type aluminum electrolytic capacitors was limited to 105℃, but Nippon Chemi-Con has been developing high heat-resistant products for such applications expected to expand in the future. The GXA Series achieves a heat resistance of 125℃, allowing use in harsh environments. 


When these products are used at 105℃ with rated voltage and rated ripple current, a life of 12,000 hours can be expected (3,000 hours at 125℃). As they have higher endurance than the existing long-life products LXS Series (guarantees 5,000 hours at 105℃), they also contribute to applications demanding long life expectancy. Additionally, for applications in which ripple resistance had been increased using capacitors with more capacitance than necessary to satisfy capacitor life on equipment, there is a possibility for downsizing of the equipment due to the capacitor becoming smaller by improving the expected life. 


[Technical Features] 

The keys to achieving higher heat resistance are the following two points. 

(1) By adopting an electrolyte with high stability even in an environment of 125℃, stable electrical characteristics are realized even at the end of life. 

(2) By using an electrode foil with excellent heat resistance and high etching efficiency, the Series achieves the same capacitance as the existing KMS Series guaranteeing 3,000 hours at 105℃, and the LXS Series guaranteeing 5,000 hours at 105℃, at 450WV.


[Samples and Mass Production] 

The GXA Series was available as samples in late June 2018, and mass production was scheduled to start in late August 2018 at Chemi-Con Fukushima Corp. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nippon Chemi-Con)
