MindMotion Launches High-performance MM32F5 Series MCU with STAR-MC1 as the Core

12th April 2022—— MindMotion and Arm China today co-launched the high-performance MM32F5 series MCU with STAR-MC1 as the core. Multiple innovations have been made in the architecture and peripherals of this product to meet the high-end application market needs.


Built by the local team of Arm China, the STAR-MC1 processor core is superior to Cortex M3/M4 in performance and its Coremark benchmark is 4.02, the best among Arm architecture-based MCUs. The MM32F5 series MCU can provide higher multi-concurrency at the system level through higher-performance memory architecture (such as independent Cache and TCM) in terms of system architecture. As Arm's software and hardware ecology is well accepted, the MM32F5 based on the STAR-MC1 core, is also applicable to all kinds of existing compilation tools. Therefore, it is possible for software developers to quickly migrate from Arm architecture-based development to STAR-MC1-based development. For MindMotion, MM32 products are already in use by tens of thousands of users, as a result of which platform-based and easy-to-use compilation tools are also essential. From this point, the F5 series can be taken as an option for MindMotion's both new and old customers to upgrade their products. Finally, how to keep the supply chain independent and secure is also a concern against the changeable international background. To our relief, STAR-MC1 can meet our needs. Speaking of supply chain security, the security of MindMotion's MM32 series products can be guaranteed by the core itself, FAB factories, assembly, and test factories, etc.


With the improvement of core and memory architecture performance, the MM32F5 series platform based on Arm China's STAR-MC1 core is about 50% higher than CortexM3/M4 products in overall performance and has been improved significantly in the chip's system-level performance.

- Rich communication interface: MM32F5 integratesENET, USB, FlexCAN interface, and up to 14 groups of serial communication interfaces, making it particularly suitable for industrial and automotive-related applications.

- Large capacity memory: MM32F provides Flash options from 256KB to 2MB and adopts a dual-partition configuration to improve the stability of system operation.

- In the analog function, the configuration of SAR ADC and the timer has been upgraded. The ADC with 3 Msps sampling rate and 256 times oversampling, and the timer supporting 8-channel complementary PWM output, bring a full play to MindMotion's professional motor control technology.

- MindMotion's R&D team has added several original and professional function modules to the MM32F5 series, such as MindSwitch, a mechanism to achieve independent interconnection between any peripheral and GPIO. Combined with the multiplexed combinational logic processing unit CLU, it is able to accomplish more interconnection functions without CPU intervention and processing.


Three series can be found in the MM32F5 platform: MM32F52 series with 120MHz "star" processor and mainstream upgrade, MM32F53 series with 150MHz "star" processor and extended capacity as well as MM32F55 series with 200MHz "star" processor and extended application. These three series are for the increasingly smarter embedded system and they are the main products for MindMotion's high-performance platform in the future.


MindMotion will launch two MM32F52 series products in this quarter, namely MM32F5270 and MM32F5280. The main difference is in the storage capacity and configuration of some peripherals. These two products are the same in the core, advanced communication interface, etc.


MindMotion released new supporting hardware and software platforms simultaneously for such a brand-new high-performance MCU series. For the development and evaluation board, MindMotion also launched the Plus Board for the MM32F series to provide users with a more comprehensive evaluation and development experience. Major interface functions can be evaluated on one development board, such as Ethernet, USB, FlexCAN, SDcard, optional LCD color display, servo interface, sensor module, etc.


With regard to the software, MindMotion's newly launched MindSDK development kit, includes drivers, functional components, sample projects, and demo tools. In MindSDK, you can find specialized software drivers based on HAL or operating system as well as corresponding sample projects and rich integrated reference design in addition to CMSIS-Core and CMSIS-DSP compatible architecture. In the Softwaredriver case library, samples are also provided for interrupt or DMA methods, etc. apart from the basic calls. As demands for intelligence increase and the design of the electronic system is increasingly complicated, the functionality and complexity of the software will be greater. The MindSDK development kit from MindMotion can be a solution to the above problems and meet the development needs of high-performance systems.


MM32F5 is a general-purpose and high-performance MCU platform, on which customers can choose their required function interface for different application scenarios and project needs. At the same time, MindMotion offers different package types such as 64, 100, and 144 pins as well as -40~105℃ extended industrial product options for customers to choose from.
