Nippon Chemi-Con has this time developed the GPD Series of Lead Type Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors, which are suitable for power supplies used in high-temperature environments such as electric power steering devices(EPS devices) and injection equipment installed in automobiles.

While the GPA series (125℃ products) that are currently being supplied to the market have received high praise in the automotive electronics field, the GPD Series was developed and mass-produced in order to meet further needs of higher temperatures and higher capacitances. These are expected to contribute to size reduction and longer life of electrical circuits than conventional products.

Technical Aspects

In order to achieve higher ripple performance and higher temperature operations, the GPD Series uses a high-performance electrolyte having superior stability at high temperatures compared to the conventional products, and Nippon Chemi-Con originally developed rubber bung having largely improved durability in terms of degradation of physical properties.

Because of these factors, Nippon Chemi-Con has realized 30 to 60% higher ripple performance and higher temperature operation (125℃ →135℃) compared to the conventional GPA series.

Further, in terms of achieving higher capacitances, Nippon Chemi-Con has adopted originally developed high capacitance electrode foils and also reviewed the structure thereby achieving 30 to 40% higher capacitances compared to the conventional products.

In addition, Nippon Chemi-Con has also improved its low-temperature properties. In the case of products with rated voltages of 63 to 100V, by adopting newly developed electrolytes that have excellent thermal stability and also improved low-temperature properties, Nippon Chemi-Con has succeeded in reducing ESR value at -40℃ by 30 to 50% while having higher ripple performance compared to the conventional products.

Mass Production Schedule

Sample GPD Series was already being supplied, and mass production was scheduled to start on November 2012.
