Under the demand of high space utilization rate and strong power supply capacity of electronic products, the inductors placed outside the switching power supply chip and many peripheral parameter adjustment devices are undoubtedly a big obstacle to the compression of the circuit board space. To this end,  Innovision Semiconduct Inc.  launched A 6A DC step-down power module with the smallest volume in the industry- - -ISM6636x (where x represents A, B, C).


Product overview

ISM6636A/B/C is a high power density synchronous step-down converter module with integrated controller, MOS tube and inductor capacitor. The highly compact load point module adopts 3.3mm 3.3mm 1.45mm micro package, supports 4.5V~16V input, output supports 0.6V~5V, highest peak current up to 8A, and continuous working current up to 6A. ISM6636A/B/C also has an I2C digital communication interface, which can quickly obtain the output voltage, output current, temperature and other information through the I2C programming. ISM6636A/B/C has fully integrated protection functions, including pre-bias start (Pre-bias), soft start protection (SS), positive current over current protection (OCP), negative current over current protection (NOCP), output over voltage protection (OVP), output under voltage protection (UVP), and over temperature protection with automatic recovery (OTP).

Technical features

The chip and inductors adopt vertical structure, which effectively reduces the chip area and improves the utilization rate of PCB.


High integration makes the application design extremely simple and convenient, increasing the application stability and reliability.

With I2C communication interface, change the output voltage online, detect the output current and chip temperature.


Smaller application volumes

1. Micro-packaging

ISM6636x Can support continuous 6A with carrying current, while its package size is only 3.3mm*3.3mm*1.45mm. The module puts the chip, output inductor, bootstrap capacitor and VCC capacitor in one module through the layout mode of vertical structure, which greatly reduces the PCB space occupied by the power supply chip.

 

2. Minimalist periphery

ISM6636x The module has only 14 pins, and most module parameters can be modified through IIC editing. The following figure is a schematic example of the ISM6636x module. In addition to the necessary input capacitor and output capacitors, only 6 external resistance components (including PGOOD, I2C pull high resistance) are needed.


Programmable function is perfect

Although the sparrow is small, it has all the internal organs. Although the number of peripheral devices is small, users can modify the internal parameters through the I2C digital communication interface, which greatly facilitates the design work of the R & d staff.


1. The module has 48 user-programmable registers

The module provides 48 user-programmable registers to meet the user's independent regulation of the chip parameters, making the use more flexible and convenient.


2. Perfect chip protection function

The chip has the chip protection functions of the OCP, N OCP, OVP, UVLO and OTP. Users can modify some of the chip protection point parameters through IIC.


① Set the overcurrent protection point through the I2C interface. The overcurrent protection point can be adjusted to three different values of 4A / 6A / 8A.


② Set the output voltage overvoltage protection point through the I2C interface. The overpressure protection can be adjusted to four different values: 105%, 110%, 115%, and 120% of Vout.


③ Set the overtemperature protection point through the I2C interface. With the overtemperature protection function of automatic recovery, the register can be adjusted to 75℃ / 85℃ / 125℃ / 145℃ four different overtemperature values.


3. Display the working status of the chip in real time

Real-time detection of the chip voltage, current, temperature and other conditions, to facilitate the management and maintenance of the system.


4. I2C becomes chip-enabled

With the I2C control chip, the module can work or close through the I2C interface.


Good electrical characteristics

ISM6636x Support 4.5-16V input, 0.6-5V output, rated band load of 6A. The chip has good electrical characteristics:

1. High efficiency: the highest efficiency can reach more than 90%


2. The accuracy of the load adjustment rate is within 0.5%


3. Very low ripple voltage (~10mV)
