SMAC NEWSLETTER Vol.138 HT Early Apps -Getting Ready to Release to Market
The HT35 is now nearing release. The printed coil is solid and the 1 piece magnets are good. Lamination stack has been integrated.Rotor balance process is correct. Costs are in line with initial target and torque is much higher than the competition.
Torque is high. 500 mNm at 5. 5. Amp peak.
First apps are in Michigan and Texas and include encoder/gear/controller. Life testing running well with no problems to date.
Demo kits are out at the Area offices and are available for show.We are quite willing to look at specials -since we are the new guys in the market.
Following the release of the HT 35 we have 3 distinct paths to follow;
Cost down. We are preparing this and are targeting a 35% cost down this year. Lots of initiatives including low pressure molding -to simplify assembly and knock out parts -internal magnetizing -fine blanking -injection molded bobbins -maybe an low cost and more useful lamination.
As of now we are very cost competitive vs Maxon and Fahlharber -our near term target would be Pitman -know that pricing since we use them. Long term? The ultimate would be Mabuchi or Johnson. That is pretty far away.
Continue to improve. We were told by the magnet makers that ring magnets -the ones we are using -had restrictions in how they could be magnetized. While preparing cost downs by bringing the magnetizing operation inside -we learned that the restrictions were due to a lack of knowledge by the magnet makers. So there is a genuine possibility of doubling the torque we have now -or dropping the max current to around 2.5 amps -that is very much the SMAC way. Probably do both.
Also will develop a unique coil design -using our printed coil concept -that will allow us to keep high torque but double the speed.
Expand the line. Next up for our internal use will be the LCR 16 motor and the LCR8. Expect those to be out this summer. But our strategy for the first couple of years is to make specials for OEMs -1K + a year. So we will let the market tell us what to do.
