DESIGN / BUILD HIGHLY EFFICIENT PLANT Case study

●Because of the engineering company’s long history working with dairy facilities, they had developed a deep understanding that production stoppages or line failures usually traced back to instrumentation. In searching for the ideal vendor to partner in the bid, the following had to be considered.
●A major point of concern was cost. The company lost winning bids because they selected instrumenta8on from suppliers at premium prices.
●In the past, during system operation, instrumentation without local displays had been utilized. To troubleshoot processes, it became necessary to either install local gauges on a temporary basis or verify wiring or measure current signals. This was time-consuming and could take up to 30 minutes per instance. This expense had to be avoided.
●During many projects, a sensor was misplaced or not ordered, requiring quick delivery to keep the project on schedule.
●In one project, over 20% of the process devices failed during start-up. Aware of supporting projects long after initial production, the cost of failures that could be traced to instrumentation became the responsibility of the customer. Reliable sensors with proven life-in-application had to be chosen.
