SMAC NEWSLETTER Vol.126 HT Motor with built-in Controller Demo
Several very high volume applications, that require the new products we will show at the Distributor meetings, have come in.
Food processing in Europe. High speed sorting. Currently use well over 50K air cylinders a year. The customer builds a compressor into the machine. All cylinders are tossed at year end and replaced by new ones. But during any particular year there are quite a number of field failures.
The customer wants to reduce failures and wants feedback on how actuators are running for preventive maint.Faster speed is also a target.
Our new LBL series, using an innovative stacking concept, combined with our, in development, VLCC (very low Cost controller), enables us to MATCH the total cost of the pneumatic gear on the machine. (Thank you Compressor). The very large cost down we are achieving in the LBL and VLCC gets us well under $400 an axis and opens up much larger unit potentials.
We are at step 4 and beginning the push to step 5. Sample LBL proving we can do the work required. Now to get the first order for the stack.
HT application in Japan. This is semi-conductor related. The customer wants a small motor with torque much higher than now available. The graph shows our HT design adapted to the customer package. The lower line is what the competition, a famous Japanese motor maker, can do. The middle line is the customer’s desired level.The upper line is our simulation. Pretty good.
Application is for well beyond 10K a year. Their target price is ok. Now we are designing an in-house proto to verify. We achieve the simulation results. Then move on to customer samples. Product due to start next year.
3. HT application in Europe. This is for electronic parts feeding.More of a flat motor design. 10K a year. Simulation shows target torque is quite easy to achieve. Target price is also ok. We have told the customer this and are designing a fumo to get to level 4. Competition is 1 of the big motor makers in Europe.
These new products have very big upsides. Each one of the above mentioned applications is in the $1M + range -actually the 1st is 10x that.Cost down / force-torque up Is a good way to win.
