R5617 Series 1-cell Li-ion Battery Protection IC with Industry-leading High-accuracy Overcurrent/Overcharge Detections
R5617 series, a Battery Protection IC for 1-cell Li-ion batteries.
Today, Li-ion batteries are used in various devices such as smartphones and wearables. Especially, those used in smartphones become larger in capacity as technology proceeds, and needs for larger charging current and higher charge-end voltage are increasing as rapid charging prevails. In accordance with the changing demands, the problem of securing the safe operation of a Li-ion battery is becoming more serious. On the other hand, Li-ion batteries used in wearables have a smaller capacity, so it is necessary to detect overcurrent in a relatively small current band and protect the battery.
The R5617 series is a new product that can maximize the performance of the evolving Li-ion batteries and further increase safety.
• The overcharge detection achieves an industry-leading ultra-high accuracy of ±10 mV. This enables the R5617 series to secure safety against overcharge and fully use the battery capacity.
• The accuracy of charge / discharge overcurrent detection voltage is ±0.75 mV, also an industry-leading ultra-high accuracy.
• When a battery with small capacity is used, conventional battery protection ICs require a resistor with relatively large resistance in order to detect overcurrent in a relatively small current band. This is one of the causes that increases the impedance of the whole battery pack. The R5617 series, as it can have a set value of overcurrent sense pin voltage as low as 3 mV, is a good solution for the problem above.
• The current consumed by a Li-ion battery protection IC is itself the cause of battery drain. The R5617 series succeeds in minimizing power consumption of 2 µA even at normal mode. This feature can make the battery operate without depleting the remaining battery to the utmost.
Two types of packages are prepared: a back-mounting package DFN1814-6B and an ultra-small WLCSP package. The latter is under development. We will propose the best product according to your usage.
