Nidec’s Water-cooling Modules are Adopted for Use in Certain Models of Fujitsu’s Optical Transmission System, FUJITSU Network 1FINITY Series
Nidec Corporation (TSE: 6594; OTC US: NJDCY) (“Nidec”) today announced that its Water-cooling Modules have been adopted for use in T900 and T950, two of the high-end models of the 1FINITY series, the optical transmission system developed by Fujitsu Limited (“Fujitsu”).
T900 and T950 of Fujitsu’s 1FINITY Series
The 1FINITY series, the optical transmission system that Fujitsu developed, enables high-speed, large-capacity data transmission in urban areas and between cities. T900 and T950 of the series, the world’s first optical transmission system models to be equipped with water-cooling technology, have reduced electricity consumption significantly.
The Nidec-produced water-cooling modules adopted for use in T900 and T950 have the following features that contribute to the 1FINITY series’ energy-saving performance and compact size:
1. Compact: The employment of Nidec’s water-cooling technology has reduced the products’ sizes from 6RU (Rack Unit) to 2RU. Furthermore, the design that accommodates water-cooling modules inside the unit helps the optimization of the entire units’ designs.
2. High cooling performance: In addition to reducing the sizes of T900 and T950, Nidec’s water-cooling modules have achieved cooling efficiency twice those of air-cooling systems.
3. Efficient & energy-saving: Nidec’s water-cooling modules reduce electricity consumption up to 50% more than conventional units.
While preparing for the mass production of its water-cooling modules, Nidec applied the liquid-sealing technology used for them to T900 and T950, and launched the supply of the high-quality, high-reliability modules in February 2023.
Aiming to curb the socially urgent issue of global warming, Nidec addresses various issues to help improve people’s lives. By tackling heat-related technical issues arising amid semiconductors’ densification; the increase in IT devices as a result of the rapid spread of AI and the spike in data quantity; and the increase in CO2 emissions – a social issue occurring upon the global increase in demand for electric power – Nidec stays committed to actively proposing thermal management and energy-saving solutions to its customers.
