The JW3119E power supply protocol chip from JoulWatt has successfully obtained UFCS certification. This certification serves as a high-level endorsement of JoulWatt's contributions in technical innovation, product design, and service quality within the fast charging domain. JoulWatt consistently emphasizes technical innovation and continuously enhances its core competitiveness, thus driving the fast-charging industry forward with its advancements.

Certificate for Universal Fast Charging

UFCS Overview

UFCS, standing for Universal Fast Charging Specification, is fully titled "Universal Fast Charging Specification for Mobile Devices." It is a fast charging technical standard issued by the Telecommunication Terminal Industry Forum Association(TAF), representing China's first official fast charging technology standard. The primary objective of UFCS is to tackle the complex and inconsistent nature of fast charging standards across the market, which have been mutually incompatible. By achieving UFCS certification, it becomes possible to facilitate cross-brand high-power fast charging, thus playing a proactive role in energy conservation and environmental protection. The implementation of this unified fast charging standard helps to reduce resource waste significantly, enhances the user experience, and mitigates the research and development risks and costs for both upstream and downstream players within the industry chain. Ultimately, UFCS empowers energy conservation and environmental protection by promoting a standardized and efficient approach to fast charging technology.

Now let's dig into the details of the JW3119E chip!

Product Details

The JW3119E is a highly integrated USB Type-C port controller that conforms to the USB Type-C specification, Battery Charging Specification V1.2, meets the electrical characteristics, timing, physical layer, protocol layer, application layer requirements of the UFCS (Universal Fast Charging Specification), as well as the power rules under this protocol. In addition, it complies with PD 3.1 standards and is specifically designed for USB Type-C Downstream Facing Port (DFP) charging applications.

It integrates USB PD Physical Layer (PD PHY), Type-C detection function cable drop compensation, an embedded 32-bit high-performance RISC-V MCU, and control circuit of blocking NMOSFET. Also, an One-Time-Programmable (OTP) ROM and masked ROM is provided for programmed code and user configuration data.

The JW3119E chip utilizes a high-integration packaging process with a QFN 4mm x 4mm-24 footprint, allowing for optimized PCB layout area. The precise constant voltage and current control feedback loop are integrated in this chip. Supporting a wide output range from 3.3V to 21V, it achieves a voltage regulation accuracy of up to 10mV Least Significant Bit (LSB), and a current regulation range from 0A to 10A with precision as fine as 10mA LSB. This ensures more accurate voltage and current delivery in fast charging solutions, enabling finer adjustments during the coordinated fast charging process with terminal devices.

Simultaneously, the JW3119E protocol control chip provides fast charging applications with robust and secure protection features. The chip integrates multiple protective measures including Overvoltage Protection (OVP), Overcurrent Protection (OCP), Undervoltage Protection (UVP), Overtemperature Protection (OTP), Sampling Resistor Open Circuit Protection (OGP), Load Switch Fault Protection, Port Degradation Protection, and Limited Power Protection (LPS). The protection threshold values are firmware-adjustable, offering a reliable safeguard for ensuring the safety of higher power fast charging implementations.

This protocol chip incorporates a programmable control core, making it easy to accommodate customized requirements. It also comes with external GPIO interfaces and supports the I²C communication protocol. With an internally integrated intelligent power allocation algorithm, it facilitates convenient implementation of multi-port applications in fast chargers and ensures rational and reliable power distribution across multiple ports. This results in smarter and more flexible product applications.
