■I2C introduction
●I2C (Inter Integrated Circuit) bus is a half duplex, two - way two - wire synchronous serial bus developed by PHILIPS. The I2C bus only needs two signal cables to transmit data. One is the bidirectional data cable SDA, and the other is the bidirectional clock cable SCL. Because I2C pin less, hardware implementation is simple, strong scalability, is now widely used in the system of multiple integrated circuits (IC) between the communication.
●There are two I2C modules in the 130X.
●Each device connected to the bus has a unique address. The host initiates data transmission and generates clock signals. Slave devices are addressed by the host. The arbitration mechanism of the I2C bus ensures that there is only one host at a time. When the bus is idle, both SDA and SCL are at high levels. When the host wants to communicate with a slave, the host pulls down the SDA to indicate that data transmission is about to begin, then sends the slave address and read/write control bits, and then transmits data (the host sends or receives data). Each transmitted byte is 8 bits, with the high bit first and the low bit second. Every time a byte of data is transmitted, the receiver needs to acknowledge an ACK. The slave sends an ACK when the host writes data, and the host sends an ACK when the host reads data. When the last byte of data is read, the host sends a NACK (Not acknowledged) and then pulls the SCL up to keep it high when the SDA level is low, and then pulls the SDA up again to indicate the end of transmission.
