METZ CONNECT BACnet I/O modules now BTL certified
More and more subjects in buildings (e.g. lightning, heating, ventilation…) are now networking in the world of building automation. Communication plays a very important role, which in turn requires standards to ensure that it functions safely and smoothly.
Here BACnet has developed worldwide as the standard communication protocol in building automation. BACnet has been standardized since 2003 in ISO standard 16484-5 and was established under the auspices of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). ASHRAE is a professional association of all heating, cooling, ventilation and air conditioning engineers in the USA.
BACnet is a registered trademark of ASHRAE. ASHRAE does not endorse, approve or test products for compliance with ASHRAE standards. Compliance of listed products to the requirements of ASHRAE Standard 135 is the responsibility of BACnet International (BI). BTL is a registered trademark of BI.
In order for manufacturers to correctly implement the standard in their devices, taking into account the variety of devices and tasks in building automation, all devices must be thoroughly tested by accredited BTL test laboratories. Depending on the device class, the devices undergo a specific test according to a test plan. BTL is the umbrella organisation of the BACnet Testing Laboratories, and BTL is also a brand. After passing the test and submitting the test protocols to BACnet International (BI) in the USA, as well as the final confirmation from BI about the BTL certification of the devices, the manufacturer is entitled to mark his devices and documents with the BTL logo.
BTL-certified devices therefore form the basis of an optimally functioning BACnet communication. More and more planners and building owners are specifying the BACnet standard in their tenders and urgently demand the use of products with the BTL brand. BTL certification is therefore an indispensable product feature in many tenders.
The METZ CONNECT BACnet MS/TP IO modules of the BMT series, from digital and analog input/output modules to the mixed or multi I/O modules, have been successfully tested for BACnet conformity in the accredited test laboratory MBS GmbH in Krefeld, Germany and BTL-certified by BACnet International in the USA. The BACnet MS/TP I/O modules are included in the list of tested devices of BTL.
