PROSE India Achieves SBTi Validation for Groundbreaking Climate Targets
Pune, India – In a landmark achievement for sustainability in the telecommunications industry, PROSE Technologies India Pvt. Ltd., a trailblazer in wireless communications, has been recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its commitment to science-based carbon emissions reduction targets. This validation positions PROSE's Pune plant among the leading companies globally committed to the zero-carbon revolution, aligning with climate science to combat climate change effectively.
A Commitment to Science-Driven Environmental Goals
SBTi,
renowned for its role in promoting and validating science-based target
setting, will now annually monitor PROSE's progress towards achieving
carbon neutrality. This rigorous validation process ensures that PROSE’s
climate strategies are aligned with the latest in scientific research,
emphasizing the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship and
sustainable development.
PROSE’s Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality
Determined
to lead by example, by committing to a 50.4% reduction in scope 1 and 2
GHG emissions and a 30% reduction in scope 3 GHG emissions by 2032 from
a 2022 base year, PROSE India aligns its operations with the most
ambitious aim of the Paris Agreement—to limit global warming to 1.5
degrees Celsius.
Innovative Steps Towards a Sustainable Future
PROSE
is not only committed on paper but is also taking tangible steps
towards reducing its carbon footprint. A significant move in this
direction is the installation of state-of-the-art solar panels at its
Pune facility. These solar panels, with a capacity of 350Kwp, are set to
reduce carbon emissions by approximately 10,763 tons annually, which is
environmentally equivalent to planting over 17,220 teak trees.
This initiative underlines PROSE's commitment to integrating sustainable, low-carbon technologies into its operations, paving the way for a greener future in telecommunications.
About the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
SBTi
is a collaboration between CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World
Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF),
which together are calling on companies to demonstrate their leadership
on climate action by publicly committing to science-based GHG reduction
targets. The SBTi has developed a target-setting methodology to ensure
that companies are acting in line with science. The initiative
independently assesses companies’ targets.
About the Scopes 1, 2 and 3
Scope 1 emissions — GHG emissions that a company creates directly, for example facilities and fleet.
Scope 2 emissions — Indirect GHG emissions, mostly from purchased electricity.
Scope 3 emissions — All the GHG emissions that the organization is indirectly responsible for, across its value chain. For example, buying products from suppliers, through to the use of its products by its customers.
