MinebeaMitsumi Notice Regarding Solar Power Generation Business in Thailand
MinebeaMITSUMI Inc. (Registered Head Office: Nagano, Representative Director, Chairman CEO: Yoshihisa Kainuma, hereinafter MinebeaMitsumi) hereby announces that it has decided to operate a solar power generation business at its plant in Thailand with the aim of expanding renewable energy procurement, reducing electricity costs, and reducing CO2 emissions.
MinebeaMitsumi aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To promote the use of renewable energy for the electricity used in manufacturing plants, the MinebeaMitsumi Group is working on the installation and operation of solar power generation facilities and the utilization of renewable energy at various bases.
MinebeaMitsumi's Thai Operations has installed and operated a solar power generation facility with a total capacity of 16.5 MW on the plant site. However, the potential for expansion of renewable energy is limited in terms of solar power generation on the factory site. Therefore, MinebeaMitsumi has decided to construct a solar power plant with a total capacity of approximately 150 MW in Thailand and operate a solar power generation business.
This will enable the MinebeaMitsumi Group to procure electricity equivalent to 12.5% of its total electricity consumption from renewable energy sources, thereby reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 95,000 tons/year.
Furthermore, by utilizing the energy storage facilities, more than 50% of the power used in MinebeaMitsumi's Thai Operations can be supplied by the power generated at this power plant.
The power plant scheduled to start operation in Thailand, the solar power generation facilities already installed on the site of the plant in Thailand (capacity: approx. 16.5 MW), the solar power generation facility on the premises of the Cebu Plant in the Philippines (capacity: approx. 8 MW), and the solar power plant scheduled to operate in Cambodia (capacity: approx. 50 MW), will enable MinebeaMitsumi's own solar power generation capacity of approximately 228 MW.
MinebeaMitsumi's Thai Operations is an important base that accounts for more than 20% of our global production. We established the Ayutthaya plant (Ayutthaya prefecture) in 1980 and have continued to expand rapidly since then. Today, we have a total of 10 bases with approximately 30,000 employees, and we are engaged in a wide range of products, including bearings, motors, and sensors. In addition, we are the largest Japanese company in Thailand by number of employees. Through the manufacture of various parts and other products, we have been contributing to local communities by creating employment, improving the living environment for employees, and fostering human resources.
Aiming at our corporate philosophy "To contribute to realization of a sustainable, eco-friendly and prosperous society by providing better products, at a faster speed, in larger numbers, at a lower cost and by smarter means," we will continue to strive to further expand the use of renewable energy and contribute to the prosperous growth of a sustainable society.
