New BG24 CSP Brings AI/ML to Medical Applications, Combines a 78 MHz ARM Cortex-M33 Processor, High-performance 2.4 GHz Radio and Industry-leading 20-bit ADC
Last year, we introduced the industry’s first wireless SoCs with built-in AI/ML hardware accelerators, our xG24 families of SoCs. The xG24 has been a game changer for our customers building Matter-certified devices, multiprotocol operations, Bluetooth LE applications, and more. We’re excited to share that the BG24 now comes in a chip scale package (CSP). Let’s review the BG24.
The single-die BG24 combines a 78 MHz ARM Cortex-M33 processor, high-performance 2.4 GHz radio, industry-leading 20-bit ADC, an optimized combination of Flash (up to 1536 kB) and RAM (up to 256 kB), and an AI/ML hardware accelerator for processing machine learning algorithms while offloading the ARM Cortex-M33, so applications have more cycles to do other work. Supporting a broad range of 2.4 GHz wireless IoT protocols, these SoCs incorporate the highest security with the best RF performance/energy-efficiency ratio in the market.
The BG24 also offers advanced Analog and Digital peripherals such as the 20-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with 16 bits of ENOB, as well as 16-bit ADC and 12-bit ADC, precise on-chip voltage references, and robust RF interference tolerance, enabling you to design highly accurate medical devices, gain a competitive advantage in the market, increase customer satisfaction, and grow product sales.
AI/ML Acceleration Improves Performance and Energy Efficiency
When considering deploying AI or machine learning in IoT, designers often sacrifice performance and energy usage to make edge applications a reality. With a dedicated built-in AI/ML accelerator in the BG24, the hardware is designed to handle complex calculations quickly and efficiently – 4x improvement in performance along with up to a 6x improvement in energy efficiency. The ML calculations are happening on the local device rather than in the cloud and network latency is eliminated for faster decision-making and actions.
The BG24 has the largest Flash and random-access memory (RAM) capacities in the Silicon Labs portfolio, allowing devices to evolve for trained ML algorithms for large datasets. PSA Level 3-Certified Secure Vault, the highest level of security certification for IoT devices, provides the security needed in products like door locks, medical equipment, and other sensitive deployments where hardening the device from external threats is paramount.
AI/ML is making a tremendous impact on the medical and healthcare space. Many of our customers in the portable medical devices such as blood glucose meters (BGM), continuous glucose monitors (CGM), blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, insulin pumps, cardiac monitoring systems, epilepsy management, saliva monitoring, and more, are seeing that AI/ML is helping to create smarter, faster, and more energy-efficient applications.
