Diotec LDP01-26AYD2-AQ Transient Voltage Suppressor Diodes is Used for Car‘s Load Dump Protection
DIOTEC demo car shown at the electronica and built on a scale of 1 to 8 is equipped with real functioning LED lights. The board in front is a full-functioning automotive USB port, capable to charge any mobile device. The circuit is load-dump protected with the LDP01-26AYD2-AQ Transient Voltage Suppressor Diodes.
A few details:
• Stand-off Voltage 22V
• Breakdown Voltage 26V
• Peak Pulse Power 5000W
• Load-dump protection according to ISO-1670-2
• Industry standard D²PAK case outline
Why is load dump protection so important?
A load dump transient is the voltage surge generated when e. g. the battery is disconnected under load. This typically happens if a discharged low-voltage car battery (also used in EVs!) is powered up by a second one and afterward jump leads are removed. The peak voltage of this surge can be as high as 120 V and the surge may take up to 400 ms to decay. Enough to damage all kinds of electronics in the supply system.
