Syrlinks, a subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense and a worldwide leader in the design of RF Communication systems for Space, with Astroscale, the first private company with a vision to secure the safe and sustainable development of space, are proud to announce their partnership for ELSA-M mission. Astroscale selected Syrlinks’s EWC28 solution, an X-Band Telemetry Transmitter. Astroscale had already worked successfully with Syrlinks for the ELSA-d (End-of-Life Services by Astroscale demonstration) mission.

The ELSA-M servicer spacecraft leverages flight heritage technology, systems, and capability developed during the End-of-Life Service by Astroscale demonstration (ELSA-d) mission. The servicer will be able to support a range of future satellite operators, including constellations. An ELSA-M In-orbit Demonstration (IOD) is planned for 2025 – with a constellation customer satellite. The ELSA-M servicer will provide a solution to capture and de-orbit multiple clients' satellites per servicer safely and responsibly in a single mission and will be the first to demonstrate this capability.

For this project, Astroscale has elected the EWC28 solution from Syrlinks. The EWC28 comes as an X-band transmitter especially designed for mini and micro satellites. It authorizes establishing a communication link between the satellite and the ground station to recover all the telemetry data as required for the mission. One key advantage of the EWC28 has been the capability to operate in the Deep Space frequency band implementing advanced signal filtering. This product comes with a very proven design with key heritage: the very first models have been developed for the Proba-V ESA (European Space Agency) mission in 2010 and since more than 50 flight models have been used in different.

“In the name of Syrlinks, I would like to thank Astroscale for having elected our EWC-28 X-Band transmitter for this mission.” Says Eric PINSON, Director of Space Activity at Syrlinks. “It is a great recognition of a work of several years to design a COTS-based space product, highly reliable and bringing key transmitting performances.”, adds Eric.

Daniel Bloxham, Senior Procurement Manager, Astroscale Ltd. says: “We are excited to working with Syrlinks on the ELSA-M In-Orbit demonstration mission. Syrlinks bid was commercially attractive and a good fit to our requirements.”
