Empower Semiconductor Showcases Leading Power Management Solutions at TSMC Open Innovation Summit
Empower Semiconductor, Inc., the world leader in Integrated Voltage Regulators (IVRs), participated by invitation from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to showcase their business and technology at the TSMC Open Innovation Summit (OIS) in Santa Clara, CA on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022. Empower uniquely utilizes TSMC's advanced CMOS processes to deliver the industry’s smallest, fastest, energy efficient, and most integrated power management IC’s which enable tremendous system space and energy savings.
The TSMC OIS brings together a small and select group of TSMC’s emerging start-up partners and more established customers, electronics distributors, venture capitalists, and ODM/OEM systems companies. The aim of the Summit is to encourage dialogue leading to business and/or technical collaborations, technical licensing, and joint enterprises that would benefit participating parties. Empower Semiconductor showcased its Integrated Voltage Regulator (IVR) series and its E-Cap™ silicon capacitor technology.
By switching voltages and currents up to 1,000x faster than existing solutions, Empower’s IVR products offer dramatic energy savings to data centers that previously would not have been possible. It is estimated that the adoption of IVRs by the world’s data centers would enable annual electricity savings of up to 285 TWh by 2025 ($32 billion), or 150 million tons of carbon dioxide every year. Empower’s E-CAP technology can be the ideal replacement for MLCC products as a power supply bypass capacitor in low voltage DC/DC voltage regulators and in-package for SoC’s and Processors. This silicon capacitor technology features superior stability with no DC or AC bias de-rating, no temperature de-rating, and no significant effects of aging. Combined with the ultra-low ESL (<15pH), height as low as 50µm thickness, and tiny die size, E-CAP provides a highly simplified and reliable solution to the system designer.
The event follows Empower’s recent announcements of volume production of its first generation IVR along with a $45 million investment to further accelerate the global expansion of its salesforce and operational footprint as well as to fund the development of next-generation Empower IVR™ semiconductor technology.
Presenting at OIS, Tim Phillips, Founder and CEO of Empower Semiconductor, stated, “This is an exciting time for Empower Semiconductor as we continue to demonstrate the execution and commercialization of the most innovative power management technologies to date with our Empower IVR and E-CAP product families. Our strong financial backing and deeply innovative team combined with our close business and technical collaboration with industry leaders like TSMC are enabling Empower to set the performance benchmarks in the industry.”
