Horticulture or grow lights represent a significant opportunity for LED Lighting. This market is expected to grow to over $5 Billion annually by 2022 due to the growth of indoor farming practices, government initiatives to encourage the adoption of solid-state lighting (SSL) technology, and rising demand for energy-efficient and long-lasting growth light technology. Retrofitting of current installations and the movement toward vertical farming – indoor framing on multiple levels – represent the largest opportunities. LED lighting is preferred by most growers due to the overall cost savings and the fact that LED lights offer variable spectrums that make them suitable for a large number of plants.
