Daytona International Speedway

●The challenge
■The Daytona International Speedway® wanted to revamp their facility to increase capacity and provide a better experience for customers. The $400 million renovation project included plans to double the seating capacity, increase the space for concessions, improve executive suites, and enhance customer experience with additional features like television monitors throughout the venue for continued race viewing. The raceway needed to find ways to streamline their systems and operations while improving efficiency and lowering operational costs.
●The solution
■With additional capacity and lighting, and more than 1,500 television monitors added, the speedway needed a convenient and efficient way to control these systems. An electrical contracting firm assisting with the project turned to Schneider Electric looking for a better solution than the relay panels originally considered for the job. Schneider Electric suggested they install Powerlink™ intelligent panelboards instead, incorporating energy management and lighting control for better efficiency and ease-of-use. Powerlink could provide them with more flexibility while taking up less space due to its compact size.
■With Powerlink, they were able to save labor, time, and space while gaining convenient control and maximum energy efficiency.
With building automation system software integration, facility managers could now operate all 1,500 television monitors with the click of a button. In addition, the venue could be sectioned off for individual events, providing more flexibility. If only one portion of the facility was in use for an event, lights could be remotely operated with the software, eliminating the need for a worker to manually visit the panels and turn individual switches on and off. Building systems could be operated from one central location, improving convenience and control. Powerlink also provided automatic, schedule-based control of interior and exterior lighting, improving energy efficiency and lowering energy costs. In addition to Powerlink, Schneider Electric provided other solutions including power distribution, electrical metering, building management controls, and further integration of elevators, escalators, lighting, fire systems, and generators.
