Arlon Silicone Rubber Products and PFOS & PFOA content
Arlon Silicone Technologies Division does not intentionally use perfluorooctanesulfonates (PFOS) or perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) as raw materials in the manufacture of its silicone rubber compounds, coated products, calendered products, or extruded products.
PFOA may be utilized by some fluoropolymer manufacturers as a processing aid and thus may be present at low levels in the fluoropolymer materials utilized by Arlon. Major fluoropolymer manufacturers are working to eliminate the use of PFOA by 2015 through a voluntary program in conjunction with the US EPA.
Arlon silicone compounds listed below in Table 1 contain the fluoropolymer, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), in small weight percentages as an additive. Additionally, PTFE and other closely related fluoropolymers, are utilized in calendered product carriers, release liners, and substrates for part numbers listed below in Table 2.
The presence of an Arlon part number in Tables 1 or 2 does not indicate that they contain PFOA, but customers will need to make their own assessment of the likelihood of PFOA content based on the information provided above.
