Development Trend of HDMI Connector
Using a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) interface to transmit audio and video data at high speed is the basis of modern entertainment and communication equipment. But this technology is rapidly surpassing television and computer monitors in many high-voltage applications.
HDMI connector is an indispensable input/output (I/O) component of almost all modern entertainment and communication devices. Uncompressed digital signals can be transmitted from appropriate audio-video (A/V) sources to receivers and displays, connecting all devices from computer monitors to TVs and game consoles.
Originally developed for business systems found in homes and workplaces, HDMI connectors are evolving and manufacturers have been modifying them for years to enable them to achieve successful operational results in challenging environments. (Note: HDMI interface, HDMI interface, HDMI interface, HDMI interface, HDMI interface, HDMI interface) including military, medical, and aviation applications, in which the electrical connection shall be firm and widely used.
Service requirements
Developing HDMI connectors helps simplify existing connectors: digital video interface (DVI) and analog red, green, and blue (RGB) component cables. At that time, DVI connectors were known to be uncoordinated with faulty wiring, which could damage the connector itself or the source. RGB lines have their own problems. Because the source signal is divided into three parts, interference often occurs, and the connection is not always safe. Therefore, the HDMI cable is designed to simplify the plug/plug process and reduce the number of connectors required from 3 to 1.
Manufacturers began to develop HDMI cable in 2002. At present, 19-pin type-A is the standard and the most widely used. It can be used for almost all TV and computer displays. Type-B was released as the original standard in 2002, but due to the introduction of HDMI 1.3, the single link speed is faster than the traditional double link speed, so it is not used in the product. Type-C Mini connector is used for portable devices such as digital SLR cameras and satellite navigation. In addition, the type-D connector is designed for audio-visual connection of small portable devices, and the type-E connector is designed for high-speed data transmission of automotive applications.
Improved technology
When used in harsh environments, modifying connectors is as important as modifying this type. HDMI connectors in harsh environments may include various modifications, such as IP grade seals, to prevent contaminants such as fluids and particulate matter. The enclosure may vary depending on the environment, and the available options include metals (such as copper alloy, nickel, and aluminum), thermoplastic resins, and fluoropolymers. For example, HDMI connectors have an IP67 level of protection against dust, water, chemicals, and other contaminants. In addition, there are copper alloy and gold-plated contacts working in a wide temperature range. When using HDMI connectors in harsh environments, coating molding and the combination of wire and connector are optional. Because this can relieve stress and protect the environment from difficulties, so as to ensure more stable performance. The coupling or locking mechanism enables you to maintain a safe connection in case of a blind connection or vibration.
Application in harsh environment
HDMI connector has simplified the interconnection of various applications since their creation. Harsh environments include outdoor digital signage, vehicle monitors, Military Avionics, and even electronic flight bag applications. Factory automation and control, machine tools, robots, building automation, testing, and measurement are also examples.
What all these applications have in common is that HDMI connectors must be able to be exposed to chemicals, water, oil, and extreme temperatures and withstand overload use. In general, this means selecting connectors that meet Mil-Spec or some UL levels.
