Times Microwave Systems Introduces New M8M Multiport Contact to Add High-Frequency Capabilities to Military Avionics and Electronic Warfare Applications
Times Microwave Systems, the preeminent brand in innovative RF and microwave interconnect assemblies, cables, and connectors, today introduced the new M8M Multiport Contact, excellent for use in the high vibration, harsh environments typically found in military avionics and electronic warfare applications. The new contract works up to 40 GHz to meet the needs of high-frequency applications and is compatible with all Times Microwave Systems’ M8 multiport shells to maximize existing infrastructure investments.
The M8M interconnection system is an addition to Times Microwave's time-tested high-performance M8 family of multiport interconnects, including the original M8 (18.5 GHz) and M8E contacts (23 GHz) and lightweight, low insertion force V8 (18.5 GHz) contact. Throughout its more than 30-year history, the Times Microwave M8 family of multiport interconnect solutions has been the go-to system for a wide range of platforms worldwide, with tens of thousands of parts currently in service on the U.S. and allied military aircraft from SIGINT / ELINT platforms to fast fighters—with hundreds of thousands of flight hours logged.
“Today's advanced military avionics and electronic warfare applications must accommodate extremely restricted space constraints and rising operating frequencies. For example, military avionics and electronic warfare system's range that once operated up to 18 GHz is now extending into the mmWave frequency range of 40 GHz,” said Ted Prema, Director, Aerospace Programs at Times Microwave. “The M8M contact was made for this and easily survives harsh environmental conditions including high-shock and vibration; corrosive effects of fuels, hydraulic fluids, and other chemicals; vacuum-like conditions created by high altitudes; and wide temperature ranges.”
Times Microwave works closely with large prime contractors as the leader in multiport and minimultiport shells and high-density solutions. The M8 multiport connection system is constructed from lightweight aluminum and features advanced Reach/ROHS-compliant conductive platings tested to the most stringent corrosion resistance requirements. These plating materials feature excellent salt fog resistance (2,000 hours) and Sulfur Dioxide resistance (668 hours). This plating type is used on the latest cutting-edge airframes for use in harsh airborne and maritime environments requiring shell-to shell-conductivity.
Furthermore, the M8 multiport system feature a well-shielded structure to meet the EMI/EMC requirements of densely packed military avionics and electronic warfare applications and a design that allows for blind-mating interconnections for easy installation. They are spring-loaded with sufficient force to ensure full mating engagement under severe vibration. Times Microwave also offers fiber optic and octo contacts to fit into the same shells if multifamily interconnects are needed.
Times Microwave’s global manufacturing footprint, with a vast network of manufacturing facilities and distributors worldwide and well-established product inventory, enables the company to continue providing quality products with reduced lead times. In-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities also allow Times Microwave to deliver RF products that meet the most demanding requirements, including customized product design, installation, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement solution
