Introduction of Four Common QSFP28 Active Optical Cables
Active optical cable (AOC) is a communication cable that needs to use external energy to convert electrical signals into optical signals or convert optical signals into electrical signals in the communication process. In addition, the optical transceivers at both ends of the optical cable provide photoelectric conversion and optical transmission functions.
We all know that the packaging and types of optical modules are diverse. Similarly, there are many packages and types of AOC active optical cable. In this article, we will introduce one of many AOC types, that is, QSFP28 AOC. What product types does QSFP28 AOC have? Here are four common QSFP28 AOCs, please keep reading.
1. Definition of AOC active optical cable
AOC
is the abbreviation of active optical cable. It looks similar to copper
cable, but the transmission method and use environment are different.
Active optical cables are mainly used in short-distance multi-channel
data communication applications.
Active optical cable is composed of multi-mode optical fiber, optical transceiver, control chip and parallel optical module. The optical transceivers at both ends of the active optical cable provide photoelectric conversion and optical transmission functions to increase the transmission speed and transmission distance of the optical cable without weakening the compatibility with the standard electrical interface.
2. The four common QSFP28 AOCs are as follows:
(1) 100G QSFP28 to 2 x50G QSFP28 AOC
100G QSFP28 to 2x 50G QSFP28 AOC are designed to connect 100m multimode fiber (MMF) for optical connections. Based on the vertically integrated VCSEL array technology and design, QSFP28 compatible high-density connectors, 100G QSFP28 to 2x 50G QSFP28 AOC components are compact, lightweight, and low-power.
Its characteristics are as follows:
It complies with SFF-8436 and SFF-8431; It uses 850nm VCSEL laser array and PIN detector array; The maximum connection length of OM3 multimode fiber is 70m, and the maximum connection length of OM4 multimode fiber is 100m; Its working temperature: 0°C~ 70°C; Both transceiver channels have built-in CDRs; it has digital diagnosis function.
(2) 50G QSFP28 AOC
50G QSFP28 AOC is designed for 100m fiber (MMF) on optical interconnect connections in multi-mode. Based on the vertically integrated VCSEL array technology and designed a QSFP28 msa compatible high-density connector, the 50G QSFP28 AOC assembly is compact, lightweight, and low-power.
(3) 100G QSFP28 to 4X 25G SFP28 AOC
QSFP28 to 4x SFP28 breakthrough fiber optical cables provide IT professionals with a cost-effective combination of 100G QSFP28 and 25G SFP28 interconnect solutions that enable host adapters, switches, and servers.
(4) 100G QSFP28 AOC
gqs-mp101-xxxcl is a four-channel, which can be pluggable, parallel fiber QSFP + SR4 100 or 40 Gigabit Ethernet, Infiniband FDR/EDR and applications. This optical module is a high-performance module for short-distance multi-channel data communication and interconnection applications. It integrates four data channels in each direction with a bandwidth of 100 Gbps. Each channel can use OM3 fiber for 70 meters or 100 meters for OM4 fiber, and run to 70m at a speed of 28.05Gbps. These modules are designed to use a multimode fiber optical system with a nominal wavelength of 850nm. The electrical interface uses 38 contact edge type connectors. The optical interface uses 12 optical fiber MTP (MPO) connectors.
