The Difference Between Schottky Diode (SBD) and Common Diode
Generally speaking, the Schottky diode (SBD) belongs to a kind of diode. No matter which kind of diode, it can not be separated from the unidirectional conductivity of the diode. Because many people have doubts about the selection and application of the Schottky diode, this paper mainly introduces the difference between the Schottky diode and the ordinary diode.
First of all, the Schottky diode is not made by the principle of p-type semiconductor and n-type semiconductor forming PN junction, but by the principle of metal-semiconductor junction formed by metal-semiconductor contact. This is the most fundamental difference between the Schottky diode and the ordinary diode.
In the rectifier circuit, both can be applied, ordinary silicon diode voltage can be done higher, but its recovery speed is low, and can only be used in low-frequency rectifiers if it is high-frequency will be unable to quickly recover and reverse leakage, resulting in in serious heating and burning of the tube; Schottky diode has low voltage withstand energy, but its recovery speed is fast, so it can be used in high-frequency occasions, so the switching power supply uses this kind of diode as rectifier output. Therefore, in the circuit, we should be careful to do a good job of replacement.
In addition, there are some differences in the forward voltage drop: the forward voltage drop of the ordinary diode is above 0.5V, the forward voltage drop of the Schottky diode is below 0.3V, the forward voltage drop of the ordinary diode is about 0.8V at high current, and the forward voltage drop of Schottky diode is below 0.5V; Sr350 means 3a50v. Another Schottky diode that withstands voltage is generally below 100V.
