As one of the leaders in the data center industry, ROSENBERGER has successfully supported plenty of data center construction projects. Currently, the vast majority of data centers in China are following a connection scheme that integrates the use of single-mode fiber along with multi-mode fiber, meaning that multi-mode fibers like OM3 and OM4 are used inside the computer room of DC, while single-mode fibers are used in cross-room connections. For multi-mode fibers, aspects such as: fiber type, number of fiber cores and transmission distance, must be considered during the initial deployment of the project and the upgrade phase. In the case of single-mode fibers, with the 2-cell fiber LC duplex interface, it can support 10G, 40G, 100G and even 400G transmission. In the U.S.A, large internet companies such as Google and Amazon are adopting full single-mode fiber solutions in hyper-scale data centers to provide higher bandwidth and upgradeability.


Case Introduction

Recently, the second phase of China Telecom Yunpu data center construction has entered the final stage. Located in Guangzhou New Economic Industrial Park, Guangdong Province, China, Telecom Yunpu is the flagship data center of a well-known cloud service provider in China and currently is building a full single-mode fiber data center. Since the first phase of construction, Rosenberger has provided a wide range of customized full single-mode fiber optic connectivity products, that assure and accomplish the desire quality and high-performance of our customer.


Yunpu data center adopts the TOR architecture of the structured cabling method. Three cabinets are in a group to share one TOR Switch. Apart from the TOR Switch, the Core Switch and Cross-room connections are using full single-mode fiber deployment, which will bring infinite possibilities for the upgrade of future Internet. No matter 10G (10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-ER), 40G (40GBASE-FR, 40GBASE-LR4), 100G (100GBASE-DR, 100GBASE-LR4), or the coming 400G (400GBASE-FR4, 400GBASE-LR8), there is no need to replace any wiring products for future upgrades.


The entire Yunpu data center uses Rosenberger Norma single-mode cables with LC interface, these cables are designed for an excellent flame-retardant performance and tough flame rating requirement. Rosenbeger ultra-low loss and preterminated fiber optic cable technologies meet our customer high requirements of cabling performance. The retardant performance of the fiber optic cable conforms to IEC 60332-3-24, IEC 61034 and IEC 61034. When a fire occurs, gas emission without toxic materials and low smoke density will give enough visibility and evacuation time, which is in line with the princinple of: human first. 


During installation, Rosenberger pre-connected trunk cables can resist a pulling force over 450N while maintaining a reliable safety margin, all trunk cables are equipped with a rectangular divider snap-in design, which makes easier to mount the cables at the back on the panels while reducing the bending and improving the cables performance. The high density fiber panels are Rosenberger Taurus modular fiber panels series. The 1U wiring rack can support the 96-core LC interface and the 4U wiring rack can support the 288-core LC interface. These panels are designed with a unique rear cable storage and management solution to help customers achieve optimal maintainability.
