New Performance Benchmark Set By The 9RA Series Cooling Fans of SANYO DENKI
9RA Series: Maximizing Performance Through Efficiency
As with all things, technological advancements eventually fade and lose their competitive advantage over other market designs. The fan market is no different, as new designs constantly advance the capabilities of fans of similar sizes. Over the course of a product’s life, the advancements of years past become obsolete. In response to this ever-changing market, we have begun to retrospect old designs and see where new technologies can re-establish performance dominance in an operating range where not much advancement has been made in many years.
Unleashing the Potential of Low Power and Low Noise
SANYO DENKI has taken a ground-up approach to revitalize our mid to low grade performance fans and bring them into the cutting edge of fan design. The new SANYO DENKI 9RA series fans utilize the latest advancements in fan technology, which are used in our high-performance products, and instill those practices into a product that skyrockets the potential of low power and low noise fan applications. This article will discuss the new design practices utilized in all Low Noise 9RA products.
Key Features of SANYO DENKI 9RA Cooling Fans
As today’s equipment generates more heat, fans used in equipment that is installed near human interaction are restricted by both cooling performance and quietness. Against this backdrop, SANYO DENKI has developed a new low-noise, low-power-consumption DC fan with the same or better cooling performance as their conventional fans. Featuring not only low noise but also low power consumption, it is suitable for equipment that requires energy savings as well.
The new 9RA series fans are purposely built with a highly efficient fan motor in mind. With advancements, SANYO DENKI has seen reductions as high as 44% less power draw when comparing to fans with comparable performance. For example, the 92x25mm frame size in the graph below shows significant reductions of power across the entire PQ curve range.
1. Reduced Power Consumption
The new 9RA series fans are purposely built with a highly efficient fan motor in mind. With our advancements, we have seen reductions as high as 44% less power draw when comparing to fans with comparable performance. Let’s take the 92x25mm frame size per example in the graph below:
A comparison graph of PQ Performance with Power Consumption under load
As you can see, the new 9RA series fan accomplishes significant reductions of power across the entire PQ curve range.
This is accomplished by developing a motor which is built to reduce power losses as heat as well as increase the heat dissipation from the motor to keep components cool. In turn, this allows Sanyo Denki to maintain the same fan speed or performance but reduce the overall power consumption of the fan.
2. Noise Reduction
Reducing the noise from a fan can be a critical requirement in a multitude of system designs. SANYO DENKI accomplishes lower noise than past models in a variety of ways. The most conventional method of doing this is by increasing the cross-sectional area of allowable airflow for the fan. This is accomplished by decreasing the motor size and thus decreasing the motor hub size.
This modification allows for greater amounts of air volume with reduced turbulence of air as it passes through the fan and thus reduces the overall noise generated by the fan. This reduction in motor size is only made possible by the motor efficiency upgrades mentioned earlier.
In addition to the motor hub changes, the entire frame and
impeller designs have been revamped to optimize airflow through the
system and create as little air turbulence as possible. This change is
accomplished by computationally evaluating hundreds of fan dimensions to
isolate the most efficient and optimal shape. This new fan shape also
considers frame rigidity to reduce vibrational noise in the system. Below, you can see how drastic the noise reduction can be on our 80x25mm 9RA fans with as much as 13dB(A) in reduced noise:

Advantages of Noise Reduction in 9RA Series Fans
The substantial noise reduction offers two key advantages:
1. Increased fan count without a rise in overall noise.
2. Reduced overall system noise.
These advantages provide flexibility for integration into systems with varying performance or noise concerns.
Setting a New Performance Standard
With the advancements in the 9RA Series, SANYO DENKI establishes a new performance benchmark for mid to low-tier fans. These industry-leading low-noise fans are the go-to choice for any of your system cooling needs.
