The Difference Between a Schottky Diode and a Fast Recovery Diode
What's the Schottky Diode?
Schottky diodes are Schottky barrier diodes, based on the barrier formed by the contact of metals and semiconductors. The Schottky diode is a low-power, ultra-high-speed semiconductor device with a reverse recovery time of a few nanoseconds (2-10 NS) and a forward voltage drop of only 0.4 V (0.4-1.0 V) , the rectifying current reaches thousands of amperes. And reverse leakage current larger, low voltage, generally less than 150V, more for low voltage occasions.
What's a Fast-recovery Diode?
A Fast Recovery Diode is a kind of diode with a short reverse recovery time (less than 5μs) , which is usually doped with gold. The forward voltage drop is higher than that of common diodes (0.5-2V) , and the reverse withstand voltage is below 1200V. In terms of performance, it can be divided into two grades: fast recovery and super-fast recovery. The reverse recovery time for the former is hundreds of nanoseconds or more, while the latter is less than 100 ns (nanoseconds) .
What's the Difference Between a Schottky Diode and a Fast Recovery Diode?
The recovery time of the Schottky diode is about 100 times less than that of the fast recovery diode, and the reverse recovery time of the Schottky diode is about a few nanoseconds! The advantages of the former and low power consumption, and ultra-high speed! The electrical properties are, of course, diodes. High switching speed can be obtained by adopting the technology of gold doping and simple diffusion in the manufacture of fast recovery diodes, at present, fast recovery diodes are mainly used as rectifiers in inverter power supply.
