But there is an invisible danger, especially now in winter: you walk across the carpet, pick up the headphones, and... a static voltage discharges from you onto the device. To ensure that you can enjoy your earbuds for a long time, they must be safely protected against electrostatic discharge (ESD). The ESD5Z5V0 protection diode from DIOTEC Semiconductor comes in a tiny SOD-523 housing and measures just 1.6 x 0.8 mm. It fits into the smallest earphones and offers an impressive ESD immunity of 30 kilovolts according to the Human Body Model (HBM) for both air and contact discharge.
