[Overview and Design Intentions]

As the workforce population decreases in size and labor costs soar, the trend for digital transformation of manufacturing processes is further accelerating. Labor-saving methods are especially in demand for equipment inspection works in hazardous locations (where there is a danger of explosion and fire and therefore require much manpower) such as at oil and chemical plants as well as in painting process lines. With this in mind, HOSIDEN has developed a world first retrofit type of explosion-proof IoT meter-reading sensor. This is in technical cooperation with a long-established manufacturer of measuring instruments in Osaka, Kobata Gauge MFG. Co., Ltd. The sensor is intended for reading analog measuring instruments used within explosion-proof area.

・Easily retrofittable to analog measuring instruments (dial-indication instruments) installed in explosion-proof areas.

・Meter-reading sensor unit for analog measuring instruments in the world’s smallest class;
a compact housing (27 mm in width), that does not obscure visual meter reading of instruments with small dial diameters.
The unit integrates a meter-reading sensor, wireless module, and battery unit.

・Communication module contains both LoRa and BLE, easily switchable according to the application preference,
for example LoRa for communication distance and BLE for battery life.

・Explosion-proof design allows battery unit replacement within explosion-proof areas.

・Remote monitoring of indication values acquired from analog measuring instruments (dial-indication instruments) in explosion-proof areas
