Reset IC KTS1612 by Kinetic Technologies Extends Battery Life and Improves User Experienceall in a Tiny UQFN Package
Power management leader, Kinetic Technologies, announced the launch of the KTS1612, a two-input, two-output push-button Reset IC with dual discharge paths and extremely low quiescent current in a tiny 1.5mm x 2.0mm UQFN package.
The KTS1612 operates over the 2.2 V to 5.5V supply voltage range, consuming less than 500nA (typ) of supply current at 4V, 80 percent lower than competing solutions, extending battery run time. This new solution generates a reset pulse for a factory-programmed reset timeout period after both manual reset inputs have been held logic-low for the factory-programmed setup period. The IC controls an optional external MOSFET, which is used to disconnect the battery from the system during shipping mode and system reset mode. The KTS1612’s dual discharge paths can power-cycle the system bus voltage and battery path during system reset, unlike any industry solution of its kind.
“System designers face multiple problems with non-removable batteries,” says Erik Ogren, senior director of mobile in the Kinetic Technologies marketing group. “Battery discharge during shipping can create a poor experience when the user first attempts to power up their new device. Another problem affecting the user experience is when the operating system hangs, requiring a hardware reset, which is difficult to implement without a dedicated reset button. This solution solves both of these problems and in a tiny package.”
The KTS1612 is available in a Pb-free, fully green compliant, small 10-pin UQFN 2.0mm x 1.5mm package. Key applications include smartphones and tablets, wearables, portables, digital still cameras, video cameras, remote controls, Bluetooth speakers and GPS.
