Modular Infrastructure Charging Sockets – Multi-award-winning Modular Principle
The CHARX connect modular type 2 charging sockets from Phoenix Contact, which have won two design awards, are based on a modular system that enables all components to be freely combined – tailored to the individual requirements of the customer’s application.
With the new modular AC charging sockets, manufacturers of charging infrastructure are free to configure their charging stations and home chargers according to their own wishes. The modular principle thus offers even more possibilities for manufacturers to respond flexibly to target applications and requirements. For example, they can choose between a round or square protective cover. A freely controllable RGB LED status indicator, temperature sensors, and a shutter can be added as an option. Plug-in connecting cables, graded according to power and length, and round off the package.
The AC charging sockets also enhance the safety of the charging process with additional details: CHARX connect modularly are the world’s first charging sockets with integrated temperature measurement – in the event of overheating, the charging process is interrupted. Mechanical touch protection in the form of a shutter provides additional user safety and, at the same time, protects against damage to the charging station. The AC charging sockets are convenient to operate, even with one hand, as the shutter opens automatically when the charging connector is inserted. This enables intuitive handling without having to turn or slide anything. To increase the availability of the charging station for outdoor use, the charging sockets have a robust sealing concept with fully molded contacts in protection class >IP55.
CHARX connect modular won two design awards in spring 2023. The charging sockets were among the winners of the iF Design Award after the modular concept made a lasting impression on the independent jury of international experts. The charging sockets also won the German Design Award 2023 in the “Special Mention” category. This prestigious award from the German Design Council recognizes remarkable achievements in design. The modular principle was a key factor in this win.
