V850ES/Jx3-L Low Power Demonstrator User’s Manual: Hardware RENESAS MCU V850ES Family / V850ES/Jx3-L Series
Readers:This manual is intended for users who want to understand the functions of the concerned microcontrollers.
Purpose:This manual presents the hardware manual for the concerned microcontrollers.
Purpose and Target Readers:
This manual is designed to provide the user with an understanding of the hardware functions and electrical characteristics of the MCU. It is intended for users designing application systems incorporating the MCU. A basic knowledge of electric circuits, logical circuits, and MCUs is necessary in order to use this manual.
The manual comprises an overview of the product; descriptions of the CPU, system control functions, peripheral functions, and electrical characteristics; and usage notes.
V850ES/JX3-L Low-Power Demonstrator is a demonstration kit, featuring the low power V850ES/Jx3-L of the Renesas J Series V850ES microcontroller family. This demonstration kit is designed to allow users to measure current consumption of different power modes. The board is pre-programmed with the demonstration software that works with the GUI software, provided on the CDROM, to demonstrate several low power capabilities. It also supports on-board debugging and Flash programming.
Features:
•Easy to use device demonstration capabilities
V850ES/JX3-L Low-Power Demonstrator contains elements to easily demonstrate simple I/O-functions, i.e. LED output, I/O lines, UART serial interface.
•Power supply via USB interface
V850ES/JX3-L Low-Power Demonstrator is powered via USB interface. No separate power supply is needed. A connector is provided to supply an external power supply if needed. •On-board debug function
The V850ES/JX3-L Low-Power Demonstrator supports an on-board debug function by using the IAR C-SPY debugger or Renesas Electronics’ Cubesuite. There is no need of additional debug hardware. It allows Flash programming and supports standard debug functions such as code execution, single stepping, software breakpoints, memory manipulation and etc.
•WriteEZ5, Flash programming software
Windows based Flash programming software allows users to erase, download and verify programs to the V850ES/JX3-L. Note:
The programming time of this design is not optimized. For high speed programming and debugging support, please following section 3.6 and use a MiniCube2 debugger. Alternatively, there is a V850ES/JG3-L Target Board and MiniCube2 bundle available for purchase. The part number is QB-MINI2-V850ESJG3L.
•Various input / output signals available, such as
oAll I/O ports are exposed for connection to user’s hardware
oVirtual UART interface of the V850ES/Jx3-L device is supported by the μPD78F0730 78K0 8-bit USB microcontroller with on-board USB interface. The μPD78F0730 78K0 8-bit USB microcontroller functions as a USB to serial converter between the USB interface of the host system to the UARTA0 of the V850ES/JG3-L device.
o1 LED connected to the V850ES/JG3-L port for visualization. •The IAR Embedded Workbench for V850 and the IAR C-SPY debugger / simulator are included. These packages are restricted in such that maximum program code size is limited to 32 kB.
•The Renesas Electronics’ CubeSuite IDE for V850, debugger / simulator are included. These packages are restricted in such that maximum program code size is limited to 128 kB. •Full documentation is included for the Renesas V850ES/JG3-L microcontroller, the IAR Systems Embedded Workbench, IAR Systems C-SPY debugger / simulator, Renesas Electronics’ CubeSuite and the Renesas WriteEZ5 Flash programming software.
Note:
V850ES/JX3-L Low-Power Demonstrator is not intended for code development. Renesas does not allow and does not support in any way any attempt to use V850ES/JX3-L Low-Power Demonstrator in a commercial or technical product.
