The UNITRONIC® anti-galling fastener, developed by Unisteel, is a high-strength material designed to effectively prevent thread galling. Thread galling occurs in fasteners made of materials like stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, or other alloys that rely on an oxide film for corrosion protection. When tightened, these fasteners can experience pressure that breaks down the protective oxides, leading to protrusions and increased adhesion, which causes galling. The UNITRONIC® fasteners are made of a gall-resistant material with a tensile strength of 750 – 830 N/mm2, offering corrosion resistance equal to SUS 302 stainless steel. They are available in various sizes and can be coated with UNI-LUBE® friction reduction coating. These fasteners are 40% harder than SUS 302 stainless steel, providing improved mechanical performance with 30% higher torsional strength and seating torque, and superior resistance to galling. They are suitable for applications such as hard disk drive assembly where mechanical strength, high-speed assembly, contamination, and multiple service cycles are critical.
