VPIdeviceDesigner™ is a general-purpose simulation framework for analyzing and optimizing integrated photonic devices, waveguides, and optical fibers. It provides a full-vectorial finite-difference mode solver for waveguide analysis, as well as beam propagation method (BPM) and eigenmode expansion method (EME) for simulating two-dimensional and three-dimensional photonic devices. VPIdeviceDesigner supports flexible definition of two-dimensional waveguide cross-sections and three-dimensional device layouts, uses realistic optical materials (including dispersion, temperature dependence, etc.), widely customizable non-uniform grid discretization, and perfect matching layer. It also provides a user-friendly object-oriented Python interface, tightly integrated with the Python-based open-source software ecosystem, including NumPy, SciPy, and Matplotlib plotting libraries.
