Poor Power Factor Application Note

2022-05-19
Bob, the plant engineer for Seiler Steel Company, was frustrated. Today his automatic coiling operation went down again – for no apparent reason. And yesterday, Seiler’s CFO complained to Bob about the plant’s last six months of sky-high electric bills. But this time, the CFO wanted to know why. Bob knew he needed an immediate solution to keep the equipment running and lower Seiler’s electric bills. He hired an engineering service company to conduct a power quality survey. The verdict: Poor power factor, and power system inefficiencies, because of Seiler’s equipment and how they use it.
