How Taoglas Waste Insights™ helped Grasshopper Environmental deliver an innovative waste management solution to Sydney Zoo

●The Solution
■Working closely with Sydney Zoo architects, Grasshopper Environmental assessed the requirements for waste management during construction and once open to the public. This involved a full understanding of the volume of waste that would be produced from construction, animal waste, as well as general operational waste. Following this assessment, a ‘best in practice’ plan for waste management was developed, featuring the latest innovation and technology.
■Grasshopper Environmental installed Big Belly Solar-powered bins combined with Taoglas Waste Insights™ solution. The Taoglas solution included sensor devices combined with the Taoglas Waste Insights platform, which provide reporting and analytics, predictive collection, routing and navigational insights. This innovative waste management solution was positioned at multiple sites within the zoo and provides Grasshopper Environmental real-time monitoring capability to manage fill levels, prevent unsightly overloaded bins and ensure timely servicing.
●The Outcome
■Using the Taoglas Waste Insights solution helped Sydney Zoo save on operation costs and achieve greater sustainability. This innovative and green approach to waste management is a key element of Sydney Zoo’s vision, to ‘secure a sustainable future for wildlife and to improve animal welfare, visitor engagement and education’. Additionally the solar powered monitoring system allows for a minimal carbon footprint, ensuring ongoing environmental sustainability.
