●Food processing company improves efficiency and reliability while reducing on-site loading with power quality solution
●The challenge
■A large, internationally known food and beverage processor in New Jersey had a high-speed processing line and complex packaging line. With a large amount of VFDs on their conveyor lines, they were experiencing issues including voltage sags, power factor penalty charges, higher energy costs, and reduced reliability.
●The solution
■Looking for ways to solve power issues and improve energy efficiency and operational costs, the food processing company turned to Schneider Electric. With multiple sites, the goal was to improve energy efficiency, optimize power factor, reduce loading, and improve reliability at each site.
■A power quality solution was implemented that included a combination of active filters and capacitor banks. This allowed for rapid injection of reactive power on the line. Quick switching maximized compensation and delivered greater energy savings. Products installed as part of the overall solution included AccuSine™ active filters, ReactiVar'M AT6000, and the SagFighter'11 active voltage conditioner.
