Contelec Cermet & Wire wound potentiometers Catalog

2022-08-31

●Contelec has been involved in the development and manufacture of wire wound and cermet potentiometers for a number of decades. The result of this experience, gained over many years, is a range of extremely reliable products. High-quality wire wound and cermet potentiometers are primarily suitable for use as preset potentiometers, for which the user specifies a required setting. To a limited degree, they can also be used for regulating applications – in situations where there is no high life expectancy requirement. The resistance wire/cermet wiper system is precisely tuned to ensure maximum reliability throughout the life of the system.
●Wire wound potentiometers – the principle
●A resistive wire is wound around an insulated copper core. This is then fixed in place and is bent to the desired shape. The precision manufacturing process allows reliable handling of resistive wires down to a minimum diameter of 0.01 mm. A wiper slides on the surface of the resistive wire and picks up the voltage signal at the appropriate point. Due to the operating principle, the resolution is dependent on the number of wire windings.
●Cermet potentiometers – the principle
●Using screen printing processes, a thick metal or metal oxide film coating is applied to a ceramic carrier material. This coating is then hardened at a high temperature. A wiper slides on the coating and picks up the voltage signal at the appropriate point. Due to the operating principle, the resolution is infinite.
