HID Global’s Revolutionizes Shaanxi’s Road Transportation Permit Card Program with FARGO® High-Definition Printers

●Shaanxi is a province in Northwest China with a population of more than 37 million people. In response to the government’s Internet Plus initiative to help power connected services, 23 Chinese provinces have issued approximately 12.57 million road transportation permit cards that store unique data for standard passenger and freight transportation vehicles. The card date is interoperable with and can be accessed via the nationwide vehicle network database.
■Challenge
●Because Shaanxi serves as a major transportation hub, its transportation department needed to efficiently issue a large amount of road transportation permits and improve its services, while also eliminating the security vulnerabilities of its previous paper-based permits.
●Additional requirements included:
▲Enhanced security and durability to safeguard the permits against forgery and extend the credential’s life
▲The capability to securely store vehicle and driver data
▲A simple, fast, and convenient card issuance process for citizens
▲The ability to build a database of vehicle and driver information that could be updated and shared within China’s nationwide network
■Solution
●The Shaanxi Department of Transportation selected and deployed 159 HID FARGO® HDP5000 high definition security printers at more than 80 permit issuance points.
●The HDP5000 printers/encoders leverage thermal transfer technology to deliver superior print quality and can produce as many as 124 highly secure and durable smart cards per hour. The printer’s “instant-on” technology enables it to print a credential in as quickly as 30 seconds on smart cards with embedded chips which are encoded during the printing process through its seamless SDK connection.
