HAZARDOUS AREA LEVEL SWITCHES
●Background
■Some fluid chemical or petrochemical processing systems require level switching to control certain processes. Areas that are classified as “hazardous”, due to the explosive atmosphere that may be present, require equipment that has attained approvals, which ensure they are suitable for use in these areas.
●Solution
■There are many configurable or customizable level switches available through Sensata or other suppliers. These can often have long lead times.
■In certain industries where failures or routine maintenance deems a switch, inoperative down time can be costly. If no spare switch is available, a custom configured switch will have to be ordered with a long lead time. The FLPV Series of switches is aimed at two sectors of industry and are supplied with either a screwed or flanged option.
■It will target areas where down time must be kept to a minimum. It is necessary for a suitable cost-effective quick replacement that will make a process operational again, while an exact custom replacement is sought. The switches will be made available through distribution channels.
■There are also many microbrewery startups that have processes classified as “hazardous”, due to the flammability of alcohols. The equipment is required to be as cost effective as possible but still requires reliability and correct approvals.
■In the market there are no options for pre-configured vertical level switches for use in hazardous areas; this is where the FLPV will offer a standard solution off the shelf.
