NXP PMIC solution for R-Car M3 Processor
This application note describes the design considerations of a power solution for the Renesas R-Car M3x SoC using two PF82 power management ICs. This power solution includes power up/down sequencing between all system power rails, and the safety features that enable the system to meet the ASIL B functional safety requirements. The application note also includes specific connections between PMIC and MCU, schematic diagram, and bill of material which can greatly facilitate user application design.
●Description:
■Compared to R-Car H3, the functionality, and capabilities of the R-Car M3x have been optimized for a wide variety of purposes. Automotive manufacturers can use the R-Car M3 in many automotive computing devices. The power requirements of R-Car M3x system include the power rails as well as functional safety monitoring. Using the PMIC integrated with functional safety features simplifies the system power supply design.
■The PF82 is a Functional Safety (FuSa) power management integrated circuit (PMIC) designed for high performance processors. PF82 built-in, one-time programmable (OTP) memory stores key startup configurations, drastically reducing external components typically used to set output voltage and sequence of regulators. After startup, regulator parameters are adjustable through high-speed I²C, offering flexibility for different system states. The PF82 is easy to incorporate into customized power solutions for diverse automotive applications that have different power and FuSa requirements. The purpose of this application note is to show how two PF82 ICs are capable of powering the R-Car M3x processor and the ease to achieve the FuSa target.
