Ixia Zero Delay Copper Taps: Not Just Another Copper Tap DATA SHEET
▲With the Ixia Zero Delay Tap, power glitches and failures no longer mean dropped packets and lengthy renegotiation sequences. The Zero tap ensures that any loss of power to the Zero Delay Tap is transparent to the network and does not affect the flow of traffic through the Tap.
▲Ixia Zero Delay Copper taps are unique in containing an internal battery that powers the network links during a power outage. When a power outage occurs, the Zero Delay Tap seamlessly switches to its internal battery. This means that, unlike traditional copper taps, there is no link negotiation time outage of up to 5 seconds in the event of a power outage.
▲The battery is designed to operate up to three hours. While on battery power, network traffic continues to flow. On restoration of power, the device seamlessly switches back to external power, and again there is no interruption to network traffic. During this phase of battery power, the monitor ports are discarded to save battery life. If an extended power outage occurs and the internal battery is discharged, mechanical relays switch in to fully bypass the tap. This will trigger a small outage of up to 5 seconds as the two external switches renegotiate their link settings.
