Model EM14 and EN Series ASIC Modifications for Certain Bourns® Rotary Optical Encoders PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION
2021-07-19
Riverside,California –April 8, 2021– The ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) used in certain Model EM14 and EN Rotary Optical Encoders is no longer available and is being replaced with a different ASIC. Our supplier has obsoleted the tooling for the current ASIC and we will receive the first production batch of the new ASIC on April 23, 2021, to begin building samples and test the affected Bourns® models.
With the recent increase in demand worldwide, we have consumed all of the remaining current ASICs in inventory, resulting in a minimum six-week pause for the previously mentioned Rotary Optical Encoder model series. Samples of the new Rotary Optical Encoders with the new ASIC and qualification data will not be available until after May 18, 2021.
The tooling for the new ASIC was created using a new process. The internal circuitry on the die is the same, but the spacing between tracing is closer together due to the new process. There should be no change in the reliability of the products. This change does not affect the form, fit or function of the EN or EM14 series. A list of affected part numbers is included on the following pages.
