Model CC453232, CM322522, CM453232, PM1210 and PM1812 Chip Inductor Series Improvement to Moisture Sensitivity Level Rating and Design Change PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION

Riverside, California – May 25, 2021 – Effective November 14, 2021, Bourns will upgrade the Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) rating, indicating a component's susceptibility to damage due to absorbed moisture when subjected to reflow soldering, from MSL 3 to MSL 1 for the Model CC453232, CM322522, CM453232, PM1210 and PM1812 Chip Inductor Series. With an MSL 1 rating, the Floor Life (i.e., maximum exposure period to ambient room conditions) of the rated component is considered to be unlimited in a controlled storage environment as defined by the JEDEC J-STD-033B standard. The Floor Life of a component with an MSL 3 rating is 168 hours. A list of affected part numbers are included below.
To achieve the upgraded MSL rating, the magnet wire insulation and coating material of the affected models will be changed.
A Moisture Barrier Bag, Humidity Indicator Card and Moisture Sensitive ID Label are not required in the packaging of MSL 1 rated components.
The form, fit and function of t he inductor remain unchanged. The reliability and quality of the inductor should be improved from the modifications supporting the MSL upgrade. Samples are available upon request.
