Introduction to Heat pipes & Vapor Chambers
Heat pipes and vapor chambers of all sizes, shapes, thicknesses, and materials use the same method to transport heat.
•Heat source is placed in a location called an evaporator
•The condenseris any location that is cooler (can use flat surface or finned region).
•Temperature difference (dT) between evaporator and condenser is a few °C,
•This makes the effective thermal conductivity is much higher (~50X) than any solid materials such as copper or graphite.
This high effective thermal conductivity allows two-phase solutions be smaller, lighter, and higher performance. In many cases, the mass of material saved can help offset the costof these components.
