Problem:
An aluminum components & laminates plant was installing new
commercial flooring and had concerns with the longevity and
durability of the floor coating. The previous floors were significantly
worn down due to the highly corrosive process of anodizing
aluminum, which led to concerns surrounding the safety and integrity
of the facility.
Aluminum parts were submerged in large chemical tanks to create
the finish required. The acid and alkali spills from these chemical
baths at elevated temperatures reached the floors and often could
not be washed immediately, resulting in significant damage to the
concrete floors. In addition, heavy duty traffic (forklifts) caused the
previous coatings to peel and scratch off.
The plant was also expanding their production capacity. A key
requirement was to protect the new concrete floors with a durable
coating that would withstand the high acidity and operating
temperatures and provide a safe, long-lasting durable coating.
Solution:
Devcon Ultra Quartz was chosen for this
application because it can withstand severe
chemical attack and provide the required durable
finish. In addition, it is easy to apply.
• Devcon Ultra Quartz provides excellent resistance to
acids, alkalis, water, oils, solvents & chemicals. The non-
sag material has a 9,000 psi compression strength
providing outstanding endurance in harsh environments.
• The new concrete surface was prepared for the application
by removing debris, washing the area and lightly abrading
for optimal adhesion.
• The Devcon Ultra Quartz floor patch application was
quicker and easier than expected. The product was easy
to apply with a trowel and fully cured in 16 hours leading to
minimal downtime & without compromising on product life
expectancy.

Devcon Ultra Quartz was easily trowelable for a non-porous
finish and cured hours quicker than expected to deliver a high-
quality result – flooring that is functional and durable even in the
toughest environment.
When compared to other solutions, Devcon Ultra Quartz had
increased resistance during exposure to corrosive chemicals.
