Touch screen replacement instructions
Model 5100V
These instructions are intended as an aid to Eurotherm service engineers who are required to replace
the touch screen on a 5100V video-graphics recorder.
WARNING
Care should be taken to avoid skin contact with the sharp glass edges of the touch screen.
CAUTION
These procedures involve the handling of components which are sensitive to static electri-
cal discharge. All relevant personnel must be aware of static handling procedures.
Note: It is recommended that finger cots or latex gloves be worn whilst handling the
touch screen.

Remove the recorder top plate by removing the securing
screws 'A' and 'B'. Note that screw 'B' is slightly longer
than the others, and that screws 'A' might be pozidriv or
Torx headed, according to recorder status level.
Remove the two securing screws 'C' and carefully pull the
rear (connector) plate and associated card cage backwards
slightly.
1
MICROBOARD
Disconnect all the looms from the micro-
board, and lift the card cage out of the chassis.
2
Re-assemble the recorder, using the opposite procedure to the disassembly procedure described in
steps 1 to 6, above. Once the re-assembly procedure is complete, carry out the screen calibration
procedure as described in the Installation and Operation manual. Failure to carry out this procedure
will result in the touch screen and display screen being misaligned relative to one another.
9
Remove the protective sheet from the
front of the screen.
Remove the backing material from the
self-adhesive gasket.
10
Remove the protective sheet from the
back of the screen.
11
Insert the new touch screen into the front cover,
ensuring that it is located against the left edge of
the casing and against the 'ledge' below the bottom
of the display aperture.
Ensure that the inside of the touch screen is dirt
and dust free.

Remove the six screws securing the front
cover
Rotate the cover downwards, at the same time
allowing the microboard to move forwards.
Disconnect the touch panel flexi-cables.
Undo the two screws securing the display screen assembly to the cover, and slide/lift the dis-
play assembly out of the cover, and, avoiding finger contact with the face of the screen, place
the assembly in a clean environment such as a new anti-static bag.
This leaves the old touch screen inside the cover
WARNING,
The next step involves the removal of a fragile glass sheet from its mounting. It is rec-
ommended that both hand and eye protection be worn, to guard against glass ingress
should the touch screen shatter. When using the blade to separate the touchscreen from
the gasket, the blade should always be moved in a direction away from the user, and it
should be ensured that, should the blade break or slip, no contact would be made with
either the person carrying out the procedure or with any nearby personnel.
In accordance with the manufacturers instructions for use,
and details provided by the Manufacturers Safety Data
Sheet (MSDS), use a commercial ‘Freezer spray’ (avail-
able from most electronics distributors) to freeze the gas-
ket located between the touch screen and the door. Run
the spray tube twice round the whole frame, at moderate
speed to ensure that all the gasket is frozen. Continue at
step 8 immediately.
With the gasket frozen, use a sharp ‘Craft knife’ or similar to separate the touch screen from the gas-
ket. (It is likely that some damage to the touch screen will occur during this process.)
Place a wooden/plastic etc. block of suitable size onto the screen. Carefully, but firmly, press down
on the block to separate the screen from the covers metal frame.
Discard the touch screen.
Remove all traces of the old gasket from the inside of the recorder display housing
